While visiting friends in Chicago, I received a surprise phone call from my husband asking me if I wanted to pack my bags when I got home and head to Belgium ….
As a first time visitor, Chicago was full of surprises. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived in Chicago other than to see an abundance of record breaking architectural wonders. That and the lure of SNL Cheeseburger Cheeseburger… no fries, chips … no coke, pepsi!
Chicago did not disappoint. The highlight though … Gino’s East deep dish pizza. Absolutely, hands down, the best pizza I ever ate. I laughed when my friends described it to me and told me about people who had it shipped to their homes. Add me to that list … my favorite Christmas present this year …
One day we received a phone call from our son informing us that “we” have a problem. A puppy was in trouble and needed a home. Never mind that our son is a college student living five hours away in an apartment that has a “no animals” clause in the lease. Inconvenient details that surely can be worked out. Parents can be won over and little sister can be bribed to help out! Problem solved.
CiCi is now a welcome addition to the family … and perfect timing. We get to enjoy the puppy phase, the excitement when visitors arrive, the choice selection of clothes, shoes, and many other objects to nosh on … and then when she is all grown up and trained … well, you get the picture! We love CiCi … she has brought a lot of unpredictability and immense joy to our family!
The benefits of being a tag-along on yet another business trip. We were able to visit Milan with shopping opportunities everywhere we looked, Bologna where I reconnected with an old friend, Bellagio and Lake Como. I love business trips when I’m not the one working!

After a few days in Egypt, we headed to Israel where we met up with the remainder of our group. We were also quite anxious to be able to eat fresh fruit and vegetables! Many memories and a thousand pictures later ….
The highlight of our trip to Egypt was the hike up Mt. Sinai. We began our journey up Mt. Sinai at 12:00 am first riding a camel then hiking up rocks which were described by our tour guide as steps. Seriously …. steps? We neared the top around 4:30 am where we rested in a Bedouin version of a coffee shop for an hour or so … then climbed more steps to the top. Facing one way we saw the sun rise … turn around and we saw beautiful mountains illuminated by the moon.
Sunrise happened so quickly … the views were breathtaking
